Thomas The Blue E2 Thomas the Tank Engine has always been a beloved character on the Island of Sodor. He is known for his cheerful personality, blue color, and distinctive face. Thomas has been around since the early 1940s, when he was built by the North Wales Railway at their works in Ruabon. He was originally painted green and used for heavy haulage work in the quarries around Ruabon.

He was originally painted green and named "Edwin" before being repainted blue and renamed "Edward" in 1924. Edward was first sent to work on the Ffarquhar Quarry, but was soon transferred to the Brendam Docks to help unload ships. It was there that he met Thomas the Tank Engine, who became his best friend. Edward is known for his wisdom, maturity, and kind-hearted nature. He is always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends on Sodor. Despite his age, Edward remains a valuable member of the Sodor Railway and is respected by both the humans and the engines alike.

Old Coaly In 1855, a young mule named Coaly was brought to Pennsylvania from Kentucky. He quickly became a favorite among the workers building the original Old Main building on the campus of the Pennsylvania State University. Coaly was used to haul limestone blocks from a quarry to the construction site, and he worked tirelessly for many years. Coaly was so beloved by the workers that they preserved his bones after he died in 1893. His skeleton is now on display in the HUB–Robeson Center on campus. In honor of Old Coaly, there is a food concession called "Coaly's Corner" at Penn State's new baseball stadium, Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. There is also an honorary society for College of Agricultural Sciences students at Penn State named "The Coaly Society." Coaly's legacy as a beloved Penn State mascot continues to this day.

Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat was an unofficial mascot of the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. He was a wombat with a lazy, cheerful expression and a comically pronounced rump. Fatso was a spoof of the official Olympic mascots Olly, Millie, and Syd. He was more popular among Australian fans than the official mascots. He appeared with gold medalists Susie O'Neill, Grant Hackett and the Australian men's 4×200-metre relay team on the winners' dais. He even appeared on an official commemorative postage stamp. During the Olympics, the Australian Olympic Committee attempted to ban athletes from appearing with Fatso. The ensuing public relations disaster forced the president of the AOC and the director general of the IOC to distance their organisations from these attempts. In keeping with Fatso's role as a protest against the commercialisation of Olympic mascots, only two Fatsos were officially produced. At the end of the Olympics, one of the Fatsos was auctioned for the Olympic Aid charity, selling for A $80,450. Fatso is currently housed in a glass box in Kerry Stokes' North Sydney office.
