The Dodo The Dodo is a fictional character who appears in Lewis Carroll's 1865 book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Dodo is a caricature of the author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, and is said to have been inspired by Dodgson's stammer. The Dodo is a non-flying bird that lived on the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. It became extinct in the mid-17th century during the colonization of the island by the Dutch.
